Today, we're going to talk all about hair care. If you do have really frizzy, dry, dehydrated and just really damaged hair. This blog will help you out hopefully. There are some amazing tips about the health of your hair.
But before we jump into the hair damaging habits, it's more important to know what our hair is actually made out of so, let's jump right into the hair structure.
So here is a pretty complex structure with several different layers. But there are mainly two parts when it comes to hair which are hair roots and the hair shafts that you're touch that you feel. We're mainly discussing about the hair shaft, the health of the hair shaft and when it comes to the hair shaft. There are three different components or three different layers. There is medulla, there is cortex and the cuticles that's wrapped around the cortex. So the cuticle layer is very very important because it does decide the glossiness ,the smoothness and the shininess. The structure of the cuticle layer is very very similar to the shingles on the roof. Once all the cells are nicely packed they give that smooth and shiny glossy hair look. But once there are missing parts in the roof and once the cuticle layers are lifted by chemical damage or heat damage, then the hair appears to be frizzy a lot drier and of course damaged. Hair is ninety percent protein. It's basically made of amino acids linked with peptide bonds very very tightly and this could be easily damaged with everything that we do.
Now that we know the structure of the hair and what it's actually made out of.We can move on to the hair damaging habits that you might be making on a daily basis.Let's start off by talking about the most obvious one.
Hair damaging habit number 1:
This is chemical damage, colouring your hair and dyeing your hair blraching your hair is another extreme level of damage and then doing a perm definitely does kill your hair.So they do this by opening up the hair bonds and cuticles and depositing the hair color depositing the chemical treatment.Inside the hair so the hair stays that way because you are really taking off the shingles of their roof,so you do end up with frizzier, dry, dehydrated hair because you compromised the environment that protects the hydration.Your hair gets back to a really healthy and happy state if you stop going through chemicals processes.
Hair damaging habit number 2:
It might come to a surprise to a lot of you guys and that is water damage. Yes, that is a thing it's something that is very serious about our hair health.
When it comes to water damage there are mainly two different factors that come into this which is first quality of water second the length of exposure to the water.
Starting from the quality of water, we will talk about hard water versus soft water.
You might have heard of this if you do live in an area where it has hard water, you can see your taps getting that white stains by that hard water and if you wash your dishes and it's left with soap scum or the spotty dishes you're probably living in an area where it has hard water and this can actually really be detrimental to your hair health and the skin health in general. So the hard water has a naturally higher pH meaning that it is stripping away your skin's moisture and It is affecting your hair health as well but most importantly the mineral buildup in the hard water makes it really difficult for shampoos to sufficiently lather up and wash away.So your hair may feel really filmy and dry and frizzy after the wash and same with your skin. You may also notice that your hair color doesn't retain as effectively on the other hand soft water can make your hair feel a little bit greasy, more weighed down.Especially if you do have really fine hair .
If you do live in an area where it has hard water,it's not the end of the day. There are mainly two tips that are highly recommended :
Number one is doing a vinegar rinse or an acid rinse. This is more popularized by the countries with hard water and due to the nature of their water. There are a lot of hair vinegars out there that you can easily buy off the shelf, but if you want to create your own vinegar, rinse what you can do is to dilute apple cider into water and make sure it's not too acidic that would damage your hair.
Restoring your hair Naturals pH is very very crucial because it'll balance it back to making your hair cuticles packed tighter making it smoother shinier and a lot healthier
Tip Number two is to install a water softener on the tap, this is a little bit more of an investment. You don't need it If you don't have a crucial hair condition or a skin condition. But if you do have someone in your household or your family that does suffer from eczema, water softener might be a really great option
The second point in the water damage category is long exposure to the water. So long shower, hot shower definitely is not a good thing for your hair. There is such thing as "Hygral fatigue", it is damage to your hair follicles caused by repeated swelling and unswelling. It occurs when excessive moisture penetrates the outer layer of your hair and reaches the inner cortex. Over time, repeated swelling from hygral fatigue can lead to symptoms such as frizziness, brittleness, and dullness. It's basically a condition referring to your hair swelling up.So opening up the hair bonds and the cuticles ,it's more vulnerable. It's more weaker. It's more prone to damage in that state so it is definitely true that once your hair is wet. It disrupts some of the bonds of your hair. However, this would also depend on how damaged or how stress your hair already is.The damage happens when it goes over that limit, once you do have wet hair and once you do cause physical damage or a heap damage by combing your hair on wet hair or doing a hair styling on what hair that's when the damaged easily happens.
Hair damaging habit number 3:
This is definitely product damage. The most threatening thing we do to our hair is using products for styling. These products lead our hair towards weakness and with the passage of time our hair shaft turns so fragile that it looses all its natural shape and beauty and bring issues like hairfall, dandruff, frizzyness etc.
Hair damaging habit number four:
It is physical damage, tugging your hair, stretching your hair.Especially when your hair is wet. Your hair is more vulnerable, it's more open, therefore it's weaker,so when you are towel drying your hair gently press out the water,so it stays more drier but never caused any physical unnecessary friction.
A great tip to give you guys is to switch your towel to an old t-shirt that you don't wear anymore.Any soft t-shirt will do drying your hair with a t-shirt cause less physical friction and it's way softer and way gentler to your hair.
Hair damaging habit number five:
It is heat damage.Remember that here is mostly protein what breaks down protein is heat? This is something that we all are guilty of because we all are addicted to hair styling and heat styling.Especially if you do already have damage and stress they're putting heat is more like putting a fire on a match.
Tip Number one is to lessen amount of the time and exposure to heat meaning no long hot showers. If you are styling your hair with a hair straightener hair curling iron definitely make it sweet and short.
Tip number two is to invest in tools that you know, it's gonna cause less damage hair dryers, hair styling products. Those are something that's going to damage nonetheless, but choosing something that you know, it's gonna cause less damage might be better for your hair health in a long term.
Hair damaging habit number six:
Last but not least,we have UV damage, yes, that's correct UV damage to the hair is actually a thing,of course, it can damage the skin of your hair. But it also does damage the cuticles of the hair, the amino acids the proteins of the hair are really very photosensitive it can degrade when it is exposed to UVA and UVB and it can also further produce free radicals.Signs of sun damage hair includes discoloration, dry and brittle strands, broken or split and thinning and frizziness in general.
Tip to avoid these rays would be to avoid the direct sun exposure as much as possible and wear hats,or cover your hair with scarf or use an umbrella.
Some shampooing tips to save your hair:
Shampooing tip number one: is to extend between washes as long and as much as possible. The interesting thing is that your body and your hair can adjust that's where the biology and the physiology of your body shines.Whatever environmental condition that you're at your body's job is to adjust to that .Your hair is pumping out oil to naturally lubricate, naturally moisturize the scalp,so it stays protected from the environment, if you strip away everything by shampooing too often,it naturally thus produce more oil to naturally compensate the loss.
Shampooing tip number two:when you are shampooing only focus on the scalp area or more of an area where you need to actually wash away the buildups, wash away the crease and wash away the hair products that you have piled on don't necessarily go down to the end of the hair that will naturally dry out the hair.
Shampooing tip number three: is to choose a gently hydrating and moisturizing shampoo as possible in case you are someone who needs a lot of hair products, hair waxes hair styling products.Hydration is something really important,so choose a hydrating shampoo.
Shampooing tip number four:is to use less hair styling products as possible,we are not here to say that those hair waxes hair products, hair sprays are fundamentally damaging the hair they're not but what they can do because the hair products and the hair sprays you use have a lot of starchy and these ingredients can naturally build up very very easily, especially when it meets water, they can just come up in your hair. So a good way to prevent this or to make it easier for you to shampoo, try to brush it out before you jump into the showers. If you do feel like there is a massive buildup it is okay for you to go for foaming a really purifying clarifying shampoo.
Hope you guys found this blog informative.
